For the record the point of this article is quite clear at the start if you ever actually even read the article which I very much doubt…….”Do you wish you could have your mobile phone on while you were taking off and landing? Well the real reason why plane operators deny you this access is perhaps more to do with money than health and safety.”…..

Please stop insulting our intelligence. There is absolutely no way that cell phone use would cause a plane to crash during takeoff, inflight and/or landing. If that were truly the case they would be banned from all flights like firearms. Passengers on flight 93 used their phones and did bring the plane down due to their cell phone use. It is also myth and lie that they cause interference to sensitive electronic equiptment such as navigation and/or communication electronics.

Cell towers are designed to broadcast out, not up (google fresnel zone for a better explanation on that than I could give). There’s also the issue that if they did broadcast up, you’d be in and out of their coverage area in a matter of seconds. The biggest reason, however, would be frequencies. Certain frequencies that some cellphones use and have leased also overlap the frequencies that are used as emergency channels, and airlines don’t want any risk of interference on those frequencies.
