I am afraid the fragmentation of AVID software has lead some parts of this article to be slightly at odds with my point. I still stand by my initial thoughts, but perhaps mixed up some areas on reflection….ah well, live and learn.

“when you have equally capable (for most instances) options such as Adobe’s Premiere Pro which has grown over the years to be very capable and nice to use and Apple’s Final Cut Pro (FCP)”

Then you’re comparing Avid Studio to FCP when you should be comparing it to iMovie. Avid Studio is consumer software. Research Avid Media Composer before comparing Avid with pro software like FCP and Premiere Pro.

Hi. I was referencing avid studio which still appears to be windows based only despite it working with this apple application, agreed I think my point came across incorrect.

Secondly, Avid has a plethora of features that professional editors depend on.  If you’re just a home editor making vids for the web, yeah, I’d probably avoid Avid too.

Avid is a nightmare to regular consumers because there are so many different ways to do the same things to suit a professional editors needs.  It wasn’t originally a point and click kind of program, so this has only just been integrated to help people migrating from Final Cut (which is a lot seeing as the new version is a joke).

Anyway, this is a consumer grade NLE for basic stuff, but I’m excited to see what it offers a professional, who could shoot nice looking 720p footage on an iPad, edit a rough string out, and then migrate it to a real Avid for finishing and outputting.
