Hi, it appears in this case that you are right.

But on occasion the technology used to produce such unique/desirable materials has patents crawling all over it. Take a look at many other areas of the smartphone and tablet drama/legal wars that are currently unfolding for proof of that.

“gorilla glass” is just a brand name used by the manufacturer Corning.   It doesn’t mean a different manufacturer with a different process couldn’t produce glass that has the same hardness rating.
